Neighbors Powering Neighbors – October is Co-op Month!

Posted: October 1, 2021 at 6:00 am

October is National Co-op Month! This month, we are focusing on the cooperative difference, and our members’ powerful roles as cooperative members.

Glades Electric Cooperative was established by neighbors, for neighbors, to serve the unserved in Florida’s Heartland. When for-profit utilities left rural Florida in the dark, neighbors banded together to form not-for-profit electric cooperatives to electrify each other’s homes and farms. Cooperative members stepped in and became Neighbors Powering Neighbors.
As Neighbors Powering Neighbors, co-op members continue to serve powerful roles in our cooperative.

  1. Members have an ownership stake through the equity they provide for our not-for-profit cooperative – Neighbors Powering Neighbors
  2. Members elect members to our Board of Trustees – Neighbors Electing Neighbors
  3. Members represent members on our board – Neighbors Representing Neighbors

We are proud to be your employees at Glades Electric Cooperative to serve you as your Neighbors Working for Neighbors! Read more about your co-op and the cooperative difference in our October issue of Florida Currents magazine highlighting National Co-op Month.
